Supply chain brief 5 – 2NDSpace (January 2025)

Spotlight

Supplier: 2NDSpace

Supply chain update:

2NDSpace is launching an onboard computer (OBC) and a CubeSat deployer in 2025, while also making it simpler to customize hardware.

MASTER II OBC

Designed to revolutionize the state-of-the-art in nanosatellite technology, the MASTER II OBC will incorporate a fully redundant architecture combining FPGA and microprocessor capabilities to support advanced operations in space such as AI algorithms, machine learning, and high-power computation.

It will have a highly flexible architecture that optimizes power consumption and provides a high-level of scalability, making it suitable for CubeSat platforms — for bus management and platform data handling — and high-performance smallsat platforms.

The MASTER II will also offer full in-orbit reconfigurability and will integrate cutting-edge architecture such as RISC-V and Linux OS.

As Niccolò Bellini, Co-founder at 2NDSpace, explains;

“This product not only meets current market demands but also provides a forward-looking solution for future missions, enhancing operational efficiency while significantly reducing costs and risks”

OPERA CubeSat deployer

OPERA is a next-generation deployer that 2NDSpace believes will set a new benchmark in CubeSat deployment. It’s designed to support satellites up to 16U and offer unparalleled performance and flexibility.

OPERA will offer several unique features including broad hardware compatibility, optimized clearance, and an innovative highly reliable Hold-Down and Release Mechanism (HDRM).

As Niccolò states;

“These capabilities will make OPERA an ideal choice for satellite developers and launch service providers, ensuring fast and secure integration while minimizing the risks of deployment failures.”

Customization without compromise

In today’s space industry customization is the norm, yet it’s often perceived as a daunting and costly undertaking. Many users opt for off-the-shelf solutions and may have to accept compromises on performance to avoid the challenges they associate with customization.

But there is an alternative, as Niccolò explains;

“At 2NDSpace we aim to shift this perspective, demonstrating that customization is not only achievable but also manageable and cost-effective.”

“With a relevant market experience made of successful deliveries of space systems, 2NDSpace has developed an efficient “customization-as-a-standard” that makes tailored solutions accessible without the high costs and delays often associated with non-recurring engineering (NRE).”

“This allows us to provide bespoke systems that meet the exact needs of our clients while maintaining competitive pricing and rapid delivery times.”

2NDSpace aims to make customization feel seamless and approachable, and even turn the process into a strategic advantage in 2025.
