Scanway in 2023

We asked Scanway what the company’s biggest wins in 2023 were. They replied with the following information:

We can definitely say that 2023 was a great milestone year for Scanway, both from the business and technological sides.

We gained the TRL 9 for our telescopes due to the launch of the STAR VIBE mission at the beginning of the year. For the whole year we were involved in the mission operation, and we’ve managed to prove the technology and took a lot of images of our planet. This allowed us to deepen our knowledge and skills in mission operations.

Gaining the TRL9 for the telescopes boosted our business development in the field of commercial sales of telescopes.

We also began participating in the LUWEX project – the development of a device to validate the technology for extracting water from a mix of ice and lunar regolith, as well as its purification and storage.

We entered into cooperation with Australian artificial intelligence (AI) company AICRAFT. This will focus on the development of optical payloads based on artificial intelligence algorithms.

On the business side we successfully went public through an IPO and became a part of Polish alternative stock market New Connect.

We were an exhibitor at the SmallSat Conference 2023, the first Polish company to do so. We also participated in Batch1 of the CASSINI Business Accelerator.

In addition, in 2023 we established strategic cooperation with Marble Imaging (on the subject of developing the first European constellation for EO) and won the German Space Agency’s “Kleinsatelliten Nutzlastwettbewerb” competition.

Scanway in 2024

Scanway also shared the company’s strategic aims and ambitions for this year:

After such a year we have quite ambitious plans for 2024. Firstly – we are scaling up the company, processes and production capacity.

We’re planning to finish the two biggest projects we’re involved with right now: the biggest telescope for EO developed in Poland (for EagleEye mission) and two telescopes for the PIAST (Polish nanosatellite) constellation that will be launched in 2025.

Also, we will start working on the demo mission for the first European constellation for EO together with Marble Imaging.

From the business side, we’re planning to enter new markets and create a new collaboration with entities from all around the world, especially the US.

Insights from the supply chain

Some further thoughts and insights from Scanway:

The current space industry changes very quickly. Engineers, project managers and business developers need to adapt their actions to what customers and markets are demanding.

In the smaller satellite segment such agility and flexibility are a must while maintaining the desired quality of the delivered products.

Also, we can’t forget that lots of space activity in upcoming years will be oriented towards the lunar economy. Therefore, we expect to see (and be involved in) will be a lot of ideas, products and pivots that will allow humanity to set foot on the Moon again.
